Delta / Rockwell 31-710 Disc & Belt Sander
Model 31-710
Serial# JZ5174
Date 1978
150 mm belt & 12" disc
When I went to pick up the radial drill press I saw some machine bits lying outside under other boxes and bags. Underneath was the dismantled bits of a belt and disc sander. Most of it seemed to be there but there was no motor.
Needless to say it was loaded with the drill press.
The parts were rusted and the belt idler drum shaft mangled otherwise it was sound. Lee the local machinist made a new shaft, I got new bearings and did some serious derusting and painting (Case Orange this time).
Found a motor, fitted new bearings, taperlok pulley and a graphite pad on the belt platen. The biggest problem I have is the tracking. Works fine then all of a sudden the belt goes left or right. The end housings now have grooves where the belt has worn through on either side. It is suggested that the crowning on the top be reduced. Have not tried it yet so can not comment on if that is the right advice. The dust collection does work well although you need 2 different size pipes for the belt and disc
